In 2013, Larry Monroe asked me to write some arrangements of Brazilian standards for a featured performance at the Voices of the Upper Galilee Chamber Music Festival in K’far Blum Israel. We performed with the festival chamber orchestra and a rhythm section of friends from Rimon school in Tel Aviv. Larry was the featured soloist on alto sax and many of the tunes had vocals, sung by Paula Valstein. A few years later, Larry decided to record the project and we invited Michael to join the production team. Larry has worked for many years with the great singer, Donna McElroy, and I adapted my charts for her range. We picked three more tunes for her to sing and Michael did these new arrangements. He also co-produced the record with me, played bass in the rhythm section, engineered many of the recording sessions, and mixed the entire record.
